Cute Easy Hairstyles Biography

The idea for Cute Girls Hairstyles began years ago. It was 2001, in fact, when my twin daughter’s were 18 months old. I quickly became tired of the simple “waterspout” piggies on top and eager to try out some new hairstyles. As their hair grew longer, and as my mind could not keep track of the hairdo’s… I decided to take pictures of each hairstyle and place them into a small photo album to be kept by the bathroom sink.

Well, we added two more daughters and many more hairstyles as the years went by. When the twins entered school, I found them flipping through the hairdo book every morning looking for their ‘do for the day. {They were certainly more invested in the hairdo time when they had a say in which hairstyle to go with!}

During those seven years, that photo book had been worn ragged by all four of my girls. It was not until October 2008 when I finally decided to record the hairstyles in a blog format so that I had something “permanent” to reference. As friends, family, and even strangers asked me how I made a certain hairstyle, it was very easy to refer them to the blog for step-by-step instructions.

Well, friends told more friends, and they told friends, etc. Now Cute Girls Hairstyles has become a hairstyle reference for hundreds of thousands of moms and girls all over the world!

I also share my passion for adoption and we have assisted several families to be more open to it… even helping place several beautiful babies into wonderful adoptive homes.  We now have a total of six beautiful children, each of whom we love dearly.  The last two are adopted, although they have always been in our hearts!  {Feel free to click Our Adoption Story to read our own miracle with our son.  Our daughter’s adoption story is forthcoming…}

Hello again!  It’s me, Kate, invited back for my second guest post.  My first one was about how I like to randomly burst into tears at the gym.  This still happens to me occasionally by the way.

As I mentioned in that post, I am a hair stylist.  And, for the record, a curly hair snob.  And a no-pooer.  Google that one.  At any rate, there has been a request for some hair instruction here.  So now I will attempt to e-instruct you how to perform a messy updo. 

I have been doing hair for a good 12 years now, and after a lot of practice, I’ve kind of become the updo girl.  I love doing a beautiful and precise updo for a bride.  But thank the heavens above for the messy updo or else I’d probably never leave the house myself.  No perfection required.  Just sit in front of the mirror with a box of bobby pins and play.

I sport the messy updo just about every single day of my life.  My version requires one elastic ponytail holder and two bobby pins.  It’s easy, it can look like just the right kind of sloppy, or stick a couple extra bobby pins in it, maybe a braid or twist on the side, and a pretty flower and you look like you’ve got skills and you’re goin’ places.  This is perfect for second (or third) day hair, and pretty much any hair texture can play.

Now for my ultimate act of bravery.  I decided to make this a video blog because after taking pictures and trying to describe exactly what I was doing, this was going in a majorly BORING direction.  So I put my kids to bed and talked to myself (and you!) in my bathroom mirror.  I’m super self-conscious about this but I’m going to pretend I’m not.  My husband has assured me that I’m still cool.  So, please press play and I hope you learn something!

These are my favorite bobby pins, available at Sally Beauty Supply in a few different colors.  I buy the gold ones for my blonde hair.  I’m also a fan of elastics that match my hair.  I use the Goody Ouchless ones, available pretty much everywhere.
